Dear Veteran & Fellow Coloradan:

Unless you have been in a cave over the last 3-4 years, I don't think that I have to tell you that America isn't run like it used to. It wasn't that long ago that you could trust a man at his word. His handshake was just as good as a signed contract. Politicians and Bankers used to exist as "public servants" instead of masters. We used to trust that a leader or business cared enough about our kids, our country and our sacred honor, that they would try to do the right thing- even if it wasn't easy. I fear that those days are past.

We have learned too much over the last few years. We have learned that some within our country want to take the best for themselves and leave us high and dry. When the "too big to fail" banks received over 700 BILLION in TAXPAYER funds to save their own rears did they learn any lessons? Did they change their ways? Did they apologize for their fraud and misrepresentation? Did they thank any veterans who had protected this country from enemies, foreign and domestic, for over 200 years? If they did, I never heard it.

Two Presidents + One Emperor vs. The Banks

I am not the first to notice what the banks have done to this country. We had been warned many, many times before (there is nothing new under the sun):

Our County wasn't three decades old before our 3rd President made this prophetic warning:

"And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale." -Thomas Jefferson

Our 26th President renewed this warning in the early 20th century (even before the creation of the Federal Reserve):

"Issue of currency should be lodged with the government and be protected from domination by Wall Street. We are opposed to... provisions [which] would place our currency and credit system in private hands." - Theodore Roosevelt

Even an emperor was afraid of the power the banks took from a people:

"When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes... Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain." - Napoleon Bonaparte, 1815

How they changed the Rules of the Game

After these "banksters" got their backs scratched by winking politicians- how did they pay us back? Did they give back their bonuses earned by fraud? Did they allow veterans foreclosed while deployed to get their homes back? Did they make it easier for veteran homeowners to access lower rates on their mortgages? No, they didn't. Before the ink was dry on the checks the politicians wrote them, the bankers began to tighten rules and regulations making it HARDER for Veterans to qualify for a loan. Incredible as it may sound, the bankers have been progressively making it more difficult for a veteran to refinance their house over the last 4 years.

What I am about to share with you makes my blood boil. First, just the facts:

  • FACT #1 - The VA has no minimum credit score for a VA refinance - none.
  • FACT #2 - The VA has no minimum credit score for a VA refinance - none.
  • FACT #3 - The VA has no minimum credit score for a VA refinance - none.

That's the truth. VA does not require a Veteran to have good credit, any kind of appraisal (no equity needed) or a high paying job to lower his rate on his VA mortgage. The VA doesn't make you prequalify once you've been in the house and making your payments. They don't even require a paystub.

The VA knows that if you can make your mortgage payments at your present, high interest rate, than you can be pretty darned sure that you can afford a lower payment, at a lower rate, saving hundreds of dollars a month. Makes sense to me. Perhaps simple enough for even a politician to understand.

But would you believe (here it comes, get ready) that almost every bank in the country today says that these VA facts listed above (no credit score, no appraisal, no income) are NOT GOOD enough for them. Even though the US Government and Veterans Administration say that a Veteran does NOT need any of these items- most Banks have added these requirements over and above the VA requirements. Why? Because they have the money and the power, thank you very much. I guess it is their little way of saying "Thanks" to the US Veterans and active duty servicemen.

Does this make you feel like I do? I sometimes think I should ask them how many bankers have died for their country...

Also, doesn't it seem just a little bit suspicious that the Banks got their bailout, but the Veterans didn't? The banks pled for "mercy" from Congress and us taxpayers, but they then change the rules towards Veterans to keep you paying a higher rate loan (which goes into their pockets). Talk about "financiers without patriotism..."

How to Fight Back

I am not writing to just make you mad at the abuse and greed committed by the "too big to fail" banks. I want you to be informed so you can take action- to help fight these banks, support Colorado veterans and help protect your own families in these extremely trying times.

I have worked with Colorado veterans for over 14 years helping them to get out of high interest rate mortgages from these big banks, fighting for Vets against the ever changing bank regulations to provide to our Veterans their right to a lower mortgage payment as provided by Congress and the VA. It is a right you have already earned in blood, sweat and tears- one that no big banks have the right to deny.
